Landscape Arch
The longest
arch in the world, precariously suspended over almost 100 yards of desert
scrub.
Parts of this
arch fell in 1991, and the event was amazingly caught on film by a tourist
from Ft Collins.
The Park Service
displays the photos of the rock falilng from the arch at a sign near where
this photo
was taken in
October 2005. I stayed behind the rails to take this shot. I noticed another
photographer who
had hopped the
rail and hiked closer to the arch for his photo. I can't say I approve
of all the
photographers
I saw blatently breaking the rules. If hiking willy-nilly all over this
area wouldn't hurt it,
the Park Service
wouldn't have made rules disallowing it. The desert is a delicate ecosystem.
Please stay
on the trail.
