012 - Dawn at
the Cirque Meadow, Mummy Range, Colorado
It's called
the Mummy Range because someone saw a Mummy laying on the
ridgeline, head
to left, feet to right. Very difficult to see, I think. The Arapahoes
called this
range The Snowy Owls since it looks like 2 or more owls are flying
away from the
viewer. That's a little easier to see. Regardless, this is one of the
most impressive
views one can find in the northern Colorado mountains..
This was one
of the coldest experiences of my life. The still photo fails to catch
the slight breeze
that made 0 degrees feel like absolute zero. What makes the
experience so
memorable is that the very first rays of sunshine were captured
on a roll that
was subsequently lost by the developer. That's the only time,
thankfully,
that such a thing ever happened. The horizon marks the boundary of
Rocky Mountain
National Park, and can be hiked to with relative ease
from Mirror
Lake in the northern end of park.
